In a suburb of Tampa, Florida, 1500 protesters organized to speak with their Democratic Congresswoman (here). Dozens of AARP members in Texas attended a meeting to discuss the Health Care bill. In Denver, citizens protested the arrival of Nancy Pelosi (here).
The White House response? “If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” wrote Obama’s deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina. Sounds like Chicago politics applied nationally. At the Florida rally, Randy Arthur walked out scratched and bruised—attacked by union bosses (here). At the Texas AARP’s meeting, the AARP representatives refused to listen (here). And as for Pelosi, I am sure she was surprised to see that the protesters were not, as she previously assumed, carrying Swastikas. (here).
Of course, why would these people deserve respect? In the Democratic National Committee’s words, these are just “angry mobs” (here). “They want to stop the change that Americans voted for in November.” The DNC failed to point out that less than half of Americans actually support health-care reform, let alone ObamaCare (here).
Instead of listening to the protesters, Barack Obama has a different solution. On Tuesday August 4, the President asked constituents to email his Administration “anything fishy” about Healthcare opposition (here). Not a new tactic from Obama, please remember that the Missouri Governor Jim Blunt wrote in September that: “I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election” (here). Once again, welcome to Chicago.
It’s more than that though. What is going on is a larger ideological battle between Group 1 (“The Mob”) and Group 2 (The Liberal Elite). Group 1 stands for limited government, low taxes and “life, liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Group 2 believes that the Mob is incapable and unable to competently live their own lives. Group 1 wants to be responsible for their own actions. Group 2 wants to eliminate all need for personal responsibility. Group 1 is the America we used to know, Group 2 is the America we have, in large part, become.
The challenge to regain the Constitution is larger than ever today, and passage of a health-care bill will make the challenge more difficult (perhaps impossible). What America has is two or three generations that are used to an administrative state. The idea of a small, limited, and constitutional government is radical to them. Passage of the Obamacare bill means more administration, more government expansion and more bureaucracy. It means that more Americans will be born into a developed administrative state. It means another 15% of the economy that the Constitution will have to recover.
Group 1 is the only true hope for the Constitution. Thomas Krannawitter wrote in Investor Business Daily that, “Still, the extravagant spending and regulating and interfering with the private sector economy happening in Washington DC today forces upon us a choice: Either we allow it to continue, or not. Either we choose to remove all limits on government power and scope in exchange for promised socialized security, or we choose a government that operates within certain limits and we accept certain responsibilities for ourselves. This is again a time for choosing.” So what will it be, America?
You can be one of two: the valiant protesters campaigning against more socialization, or the liberal thugs that attack and intimidate the protesters. Support limited government or support politicians and bureaucrats who apparently find the right to protest reprehensible. You can go to Town Hall meetings asking why the American people are not being represented in Washington, or you can send letters to the president on “fishy” opposition. You decide.
Well said!
And I choose to be a valiant protester……
