For a minute let’s assume that Global Warming is not a man caused phenomenon. Despite whatever scientific data you might want to throw at me, or any of the statistics (which, if I am not mistaken, can be rearranged to support both sides of the debate) that you want to show, throw away your inhibitions and assume it is all false.
Now take a look around you. A man, with an energy sucking mansion, a private jet and millions of dollars of “green-investments” is telling you that the world is about to end. Well, at least in the next century or so. To Al Gore, this is such a big deal that he argued that ignoring climate change was akin to appeasing Adolf Hiter. So I guess there is one more thing about Al Gore: he is risking every last morsel of his dignity on this climate change stuff. To the point where if he is wrong, he may be the laughing stock of the entire world.
But maybe we are the fools.
Global Warming hit the scene in the early 2000s and it had to do with the rising Global temperatures, eventually to a temperature so high that the Earth would no longer be able to sustain human life. Man made pollution would clog the atmosphere and keep greenhouse gases in. The problem is that if temperatures did not rise every year then the people would question the legitimacy of the claims.
So Al Gore changed the name. It was amazing, all of a sudden, “Global Warming” turned into “Global Climate Change” and no one even noticed. The consequences of the term Global Warming were simple: all warm, hot, extreme temperature was synonymous with the end of the world. The problem: the weather is not always hot. After the name change, any type of erratic weather meant that the world was approaching an ecological apocalypse.
Frankly, what weather is not erratic?
This may be the most brilliant scam of all time. Somehow, Al Gore has tricked the people of the world into believing that we control the climate, we have made the weather erratic, and we are all going to die within 100 years. Do you see the logical gymnastics Al Gore has done to get us to believe this?
Despite the irrationality of it all, progressives still consider the “Global Climate Change” phenomenon as a benefit to society. Many believe that it has sparked necessary debate on the environment. Wrong again.
Please do remember that people were very concerned with environmental protection long before Al Gore. Rachel Carson did more to ignite educated discourse on the environment than the fear-mongering, nazi-alluding, sky is falling approach that Gore has taken.
One effect that Gore’s approach has had is an increase in the demand for government involvement. Gore did not spark private initiatives, but instead politicized (and in some ways institutionalized) environmentalism. The problem is not so much about helping the earth as much at it is about expanding the size of the state.
The problem with environmentalism does not lie in the ends as much as the means. In many ways, at least in my opinion, the government and progressives have used environmentalism as a tool to usurp ungodly amounts of power and authority.
In Franklin’s words, “Those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither and will lose both.”
Post-Script:
This post will infuriate people. What is fascinating is that after all of Gore’s hype about Global Climate Change being the moral equivalent of Nazism, the Global Warming crowd is something of a gestapo in and of itself. Just remember, eco-terrorism is the #1 domestic terrorist threat.
Flea’s may cause a dog to scratch, but in Al Gore’s world, the flea’s tell the dog what to do.

You wrote this before the file leak from the UK Climate Research Unit.
While the the language, subject matter and scheming in emails are damning. The programmers note are worse.
I have been reading the file of programmer’s notes HARRY_README.txt. It is an odyssey of his efforts to unify data from weather stations and grid them out on a globe represent the Earth. He was not very successful by the October 2009 date the files were taken.
To get the data to work at all he had to allow the operator to edit the data by hand with any value they wanted. That obviously was not to his liking. Within the year he treated it as joke. I could see him go down hill pretty fast.
I saw nothing in anything I read yet that indicated any climate models. All I saw were effort to get the data in shape to start to feed into models.
much of the work Harry talked about in this file was done with scripts which would be proper for early work trying to find out how to unify all the data sets.
Comments like those below while out of context are typical of the frustration I saw in Harry’s with his work.
“Each parameter has a tortuous history of manual and semi-automated interventions that I simply cannot just go back to early versions and run the update prog. “I could be throwing away all kinds of corrections – to lat/lons, to WMOs (yes!), and more.”
“Because although I’m thrilled at the high match rate (87%!), it does seem worse when you realize that you lost the rest.”

I’m personally glad that automobiles and the internal combustion engine were around to increase the greenhouse effect and end the ice age.
The climate of the earth changes, has changed, and will continue to change. The phenomenal arrogance required to believe that mankind is responsible for the minute changes in global temperatures over the last 100 years is mind-boggling. Furthermore, though I haven’t seen the primary data, I’m guessing that the margin of error in both the pre 1950s instruments and our estimates of pre 20th century temps are not insignificant. Also, you don’t have to look very hard to find examples of rampant inaccuracies in temperature collection, such as placing the thermometer a little too close to an exhaust fan.
Rock on, keep fighting the good fight, and you should go to the Mackinac Island Conference-I live there, and I’ll be attending.

Go get them Chas. This is right on. Why do you think they’re pushing Cap and Trade so hard? Given time, people will realize it for the scam it is. The Government will give out free credits to Democratic contributors, and tax conservatives to the hilt. Effect on the atmosphere = zero. Lesson: it will keep Democrats in office forever.
